Reflections and Resolutions

"If you're not tired, you're not living hard enough"

Looking back on the year of 2016, I would have to say it's been one of my most rewarding. It's helped me realize my own strengths and weaknesses and think about what I want from life. What a difference a year makes.

Work

I've been working in retail for over a year; firstly in a jewelry store then into fashion, both I thoroughly enjoyed doing. It's rewarding when I can put my style knowledge into what I do and I thank my blog for that especially. I've been learning something new every time I go into work and it's made me feel a strong purpose. Knowing that I've helped someone find their dream outfit makes me feel proud and accomplished in my role. I was also given the most amazing opportunity to model some of our beautiful dresses for the summer edition of my town's magazine! I felt like a princess as I posed on the grand staircase, within the palace theater, and the store also got an overwhelming response too.

On the aspect of my self employment, Daisy May Boutique is still growing! I have my store on Etsy which I have a small selection of my creations for sale, I also create Nappy/Diaper cakes which will be sold in upcoming craft fairs which I want to participate in during 2017, as it's one of my objectives. So if you know of anyone who's expecting and would like to surprise them with something unique, then feel free to contact me in regards to my previous products, which I can send images of by request.

Blog

I've had the most amazing year in 2016 where it considers what I have done within the Blogging industry. I hosted my first meet-up (#NottsAlzheimersMeetup) which was to raise money for the Alzheimers Society, a charity very close to my heart, and spend time with other bloggers for the afternoon; including a raffle and a special talk from Weleda. I raised over £85.00 that day and I'm still proud of the outcome. It's given me the confidence plus the experience to be able to organize more events in the future, which I'm hoping to hold!

During the beginning of the year I was featured in the Nottingham Weekend Post with their fashion blogger segment, I find this newspaper very inspiring, as it's full of the independent businesses and entrepreneurs, so to actually be in it was an honor!
I also attended events held within my city, which consisted of seasonal trends and what to find in the Intu Victoria center, New salons and seeing my blogging ladies who really have made my 2016 extra special.

I also reached my Twitter follower milestone which was 5,000 followers! I'm still surprised even now and very grateful for each and everyone who reads my blog, as well as supporting me through my social media platforms.
For Christmas 2016, I received a brand new camera which I was completely overjoyed with, I've always wanted the Olympus Pen since trialing it out during the Clothes show live event back in 2015. Now it will give me more confidence with taking high quality photos in the new year and fingers crossed.. To try and get back into my YouTube channel so keep your eyes peeled!

Lifestyle

I've been working hard on perfecting my vintage look, I've had short hair for a long time and it's my mission to try and grow it to at least the base of my neck, to begin experimenting with pin-curls and hopefully victory rolls. I've been to more vintage events also, including the vintage carnival which was held at Nottingham racecourse and a fair few antique fairs to find one of a kind treasures.
My resolution for this year is to attend more vintage events and fairs, and do outfit posts, as well as a few modeling style shoots, which will be exhilarating.

I want to work on my self-confidence as well as body confidence, so my idea is to go to burlesque classes which I've heard are a lot of fun! I used to dance years ago as a teen so it would be great to get back into it and to feel good from doing it too.
I've been using positive thinking also in my day to day routine, with thanks to a great friend of mine whom you may recall - Purpleman from York. I attended his film premier in the month of June and I couldn't have been more proud. It's such an eye opener into the world we live in and just by changing the way we think, can change our entire outlook on life.

Another lovely moment during 2016 was the fact I was blessed with a nephew, a wonderful addition to the family and a total surprise considering I have two nieces already!

I'm thoroughly excited to see what 2017 brings this year, and I'll bring you along for the journey.

Reet Petite OOTD

Hey lovelies!
Hope you're all doing splendidly, this post is something I wanted to share with you.
My passion of the vintage era grows with not only my thoughts and the way I live but also the way that I dress; when I'm not at work and I go to retro events I go the full way with make-up, hair and of course the overall outfit.
The last event I attended was the vintage carnival at Nottingham racecourse, there was so much to do and see but the only downside was the weather, I tried to get some pictures when it settled down but that would have been the only thing I would have wished to have been different.

I'm going to start posting more of my outfits of the day if you enjoy them, just let me know your thoughts in the comments section!

What I wore ..

Dress - LindyBop
Belt - HellBunny
Jacket - LindyBop
Shoes - Topshop
Underskirt - LindyBop
Bag - Vintage
Necklace - Vintage
Head Scarf - Bow and Crossbones

Also here are a few captures I got of the day of some of my favorite parts of the event!

I had a marvelous time and met some great people; my goal is to attend as many vintage events as I can especially those in the bigger cities, as well as post the outfits so you can get some ideas if you'd wish!
I find it exhilarating to dress differently and to live it, walk down the street and hold your head up high; if you're happy with the way you look that's what matters.

Hi my lovelies! It's been long overdue for the regular Feature Fridays and I'm happy to bring it back this year; As you know, my feature Fridays were created to give awareness on small businesses, bloggers and creative minds. This week's feature is a lovely store that I came across called Gifts and home boutique ran by friends Sarah and Maz, They sell all things special for the home with personalized and sentimental options to choose from.
I think when it comes to finding a gift for someone on a memorable occasion that my usual go to would be for example Etsy, but since looking at this small online store it has really opened up ideas for future gift giving to come! Under categorized tabs, the web page helps you select the exact occasion your looking to buy for, including home decor ideas too! With quirky ideas that you can't find on the high street, Gifts and Home Boutique is a store to sure swoon over!

We started our own business knowing we both shared the love of Personalised and thoughtful gifts for everyone and the home. We love shopping for all pretty little things that make great accessories and gifts for all occasions that offer that personal touch. we were both at a similar point in our careers and family lives to take this on and give it a go.

Getting to do something we truly love, we both enjoy sources new and beautiful personalised products for every occasion and add that extra special touch with most of our products been personalised, we generally adore everything we sell in fact that is our one rule "if we don't completely love it we don't sell it."

As we started with a small shop on Facebook and as word spread and demand quickly grew we decided to open our own online store giftsandhomeboutique that you see today.

4) Where do you see yourself in the future?
We hope to maintain this for as long as possible or until we reached such a point that we can perhaps take on a shop of our own.

5) What tips/advice would you give to someone who wants to go down the same career path as yourself?
If its something that you long to do and have an opportunity to do it then give it a go, wherever we end up in the future we know we will never look back and wonder what if, we can both look back and say we tried.

Events To Check Out! Lou Lou's Vintage Fair #2

Lou Lou's Vintage Fair Nottingham
My experience at the award winning fair that covers the UK!

Hey there loves! I'm thrilled to be bringing to you another of my experiences at one of the UK's popular events; Lou Lou's Vintage fair! Now, some of you may or may not know that I'm like a kid in a candy shop when it comes to vintage stores, that's because I have a passion for the 1950s fashion, beauty and morals. It's been a style that I've developed over time and find it my most comfortable look to have. The 50s was known for their poodle skirts and pin curls and I find it such a beautiful and glamorous era that a little find is like treasure to me.

I've heard a lot about Lou Lou's as they usually take place in cities all over the UK and because Nottingham is the city I tend to most visit, seeing that they had one arriving there this month was something I couldn't pass up.

The event took place in the stunning Albert Hall in Nottingham, where like minded fans gathered, stalls were covered in all things vintage and they played music that would make you do a happy little jig through the speakers.

For this event, there were two floors of vintage stalls from furniture and china teacups to handmade bespoke hats and children's dresses. From arriving at the ticket desk, there were small tables where you could have a nice cup of tea and homemade cake from Lil's Parlour to even a pop up salon with the Diamond Diva's on hand to make those gorgeous victory rolls come alive!

It was pleasant to see lots of handmade crafts too, with flowing conversations of their passion and ideas which I give them all my very best to.

I did bag some bargains too! My go to stall had to be Minimum Mouse where I purchased some quirky brooches and 50s cat eye shades which I can't wait to model!

I would definitely recommend any vintage enthusiast to attend one of these fairs, just to collect inspiration or add to their collection.
I'm sure this will be the first of many fairs I'll be going to this year that's for sure!

For more details on when there is a Lou Lou's fair in your area, just check out their diary here

Until next time guys and dolls..

Events To Check Out! Clothes Show Live #1

First of a new series;
My thoughts and experiences on events in the UK

Clothes show live is held yearly at the NEC in Birmingham UK

Hi my lovelies! While being a blogger, I've come across many different events that I have found either through socializing through Twitter or doing my research. Events vary from fashion to car shows for all ages and hobbies and I'm focusing on Beauty and fashion events that I feel would benefit to my readers both new and old!

Today's post is about the event I aim to attend per year, The Clothes Show Live.
FACT - The first show launched during 1989 in London by Gavin Brown and June Barker, 25 years ago on the back of the then popular television programme. Due to overwhelming visitor turn-out since 1990 the event has been held at the NEC, in Birmingham, UK.

The Clothes show usually runs during December each year, that brings together many fashion and beauty brands and influences with famous faces and young designers all under one roof! I've personally attended the show about 5 times now and each time it just gets better and better. It's perfect for christmas shopping or just treating yourself as brands such as Rimmel London and Barry M put together one off bargain bags with tons of products in it's the best time to stock up on all those key essentials and fashion pieces.
My last visit was the 6th of December 2015 and one I will never forget; It was this time that I was honored to be granted a press pass for UniqueLoveStyle and came face to face with Louise Pentland and Jules Heptonstall! It's been a nightmare trying to sieve through all the photos I captured that day but I'd love to share my favourites with you.
I'd like to personally thank Good Results PR for their helpful staff who were a pleasure to work with and Olympus which allowed me to use the Olympus-Pen camera during my visit and believe you me, that camera is on my lust list!
Without further adieu here is my experience through pictures of one of the most talked about Fashion events.
