How To Host A Meet-up // #NottsAlzheimersMeetup 2016

The NottsAlzheimersMeetup
Hosting my first blogger event

It was over a year ago when I had started to focus on raising money for a disease that effected half of my life growing up;
My dear grandad found out he had vascular dementia in his late 50s, he was hardworking, a passionate family man and would always light up any room he was in with his words of wisdom. 4 years ago he sadly lost his battle with dementia and also alzheimers towards his end of life.
I saw how this effected him in every aspect as well as my family and it was the most difficult time for us all. Sadly there are many families in the same position as you read this, that lack the support or funds to help their loved ones when they need it the most.

Luckily there are charities out there who advise and spread the awareness of the disease and the one that I've been most close to is the Alzheimers Society.
Not long after my grandad's passing, my mum and I did a 6 mile walk in his memory with many others who have lost those closest to them, we would talk about our times with them, the good and the bad and motivate ourselves to get to our end goal.

So, why did I decide on hosting a meet-up?
I've had my blog for 4 years this year, through this time I've attended many events and blogger meet-ups which have been wonderful, and I've truly admired those who have taken the time to organize and plan. So I thought I will put together two of the things I am most passionate about, raising awareness of Alzheimers and meeting other like minded bloggers in a cosy atmosphere! I wanted to do this for my grandad most of all, there's not a day that goes by when I miss him terribly, wondering what life would have been like if he wasn't effected by this cruel disease. I felt this was my purpose and the right thing to do.

What is it like to organize a meet-up?
I will admit it had both it's pros and cons, there were days when I became stressed with ensuring everything was going to plan; That brands were kept up to date with the lead up to the event and the attendees had all the correct information. But I loved every moment of it, I'm quite an organizer and yes I'm also a Virgo.. So I can say it's in my blood! But I was focused and motivated on the main purpose and I felt it all worked out well in the end result.
If you had in mind to host your own meet-up make sure you plan well ahead of the date, it's ideal to network also by using social media so you can get the word across. Having a good relationship with brands and PR companies are ideal so that you provide a selection for goodybags if you were to have them at your meet-up.

I held my meet-up at Edin's Deli Cafe which is a quaint location in Hockley, Nottingham.
Goodybags were made, and the delightful selection of raffle prizes were set up. I felt this atmosphere was perfect and very personal; a big thank you to my main support, my mum who helped to decorate and make the day extra special.

The ladies began to arrive from 1pm and I was becoming more and more nervous, making sure everything was in place and of course making them welcome. Everyone was lovely, we talked about everything and became comfortable in each others company; this also gave me the opportunity to speak about my experience with the main purpose of the meeting and to also sell the raffle tickets, which as I'm sure you can see from the picture above there was a fantastic variety to win!

We then ordered food which tasted amazing and relaxed, the girls took lots of pictures which I'm ever so grateful for and began to look through their goodybags which were each presented in a beautiful shopper tote bag provided by the company, Talented which I shown in my last feature Friday.

I also had a guest speaker whom arrived and prepared their table with interesting products and ingredients and provided us with an in depth talk on their natural products, which were Weleda.
Weleda are a company who focus on using plant based ingredients and celebrated their 90th birthday which was very inspiring; and Clare was such an informative person, telling us all about how their main product Skin food, has been shared with their customers since 1929, we were shown the ingredients of this essential product which helps any dry areas of skin with many other purposes too. Used by celebrities such as Victoria Beckham each of the ladies went away with a full sized Skin food in their goodybags to trial out.

At the end of her talk, Clare ran two giveaways, one was to win a pair of Weleda wellingtons which had all the ingredients printed on them, they were gorgeous! And then a chance to win a selection of their bodycare lotions; congratulations to Lora for winning the wellies and Nic for winning the set!

Towards the end of the meet-up was when I drew the raffle tickets, seeing their faces was priceless and I really am pleased that everyone who attended enjoyed the day and got plenty of information from it.
We managed to raise £85 for the Alzheimers Society so a big thank you to you!
You're all amazing!

My final thoughts
Would I host a blogger event again? Of course! I found through trial and error working on this event has brought many possibilities for the future; I saw my own strengths and weaknesses which I'll of course take on board for next time. Everyone was so lovely which made things a lot easier and the support was more than I could ever wish for.
I want to take this time to thank those who came, the guest speaker Clare, and all the brands who contributed that day. Without you none of it would have been possible.

*NEW* Feature Friday - Fox + Stag 3rd of October

New Feature Friday!
Featuring Fox + Stag

Happy Friday to you all! I hope all has been well with you as we now transition into Autumn, seems the summer days have just flown by. I'm excited to introduce this company I have come across, and feel as a fashionista their pieces are different from the rest, with staple pieces that will turn heads for sure! Fox and Stag was born from the salt marshes of Essex, Massachusetts and the concrete sprawl of Los Angeles. Their fashion displays American street couture that's affordable style that's not afraid to get dirty!
I'm honored to have interviewed the very talented Johnathan Woodman who formed Fox and stag and is also the Fashion designer. I hope you enjoy this interesting and informative interview as much as I did.

 ----------------------------------------------------

Interview with Johnathan Woodman l Owner of Fox + Stag and Fashion Designer

1) What has been your key inspiration to your current career?
My inspiration for designing Fox + Stag fashion aesthetics definitely all goes back to my roots of the East Coast. I was raised on the East Coast, but spread my wings on the West Coast. After moving back about a year ago, my designs have been inspired by the East Coast tradition, structure and good ol yankee spirit. However, it's hard to leave behind a bit of the West Coast flare so that has been thrown into my designs as well.

2) What do you enjoy the most about your job?
As a Fashion Designer & Tailor, I definitely agree with the saying “If you love your job, you never work a day in your life.” Therefore, I would have to say that what I enjoy most about my job is being able to create and transform my vision into a reality. I design and build everything from the ground up. From sourcing materials to making patterns, and building prototypes, I get to have my hands on everything which is rewarding within itself.

3) To date, what has been your 'proudest' moment?
To date, my 'proudest' moment would be 9 years ago when I became a father to my son. Starting Fox + Stag has been great, but not much is going to top having a son....But I am getting married in 2 days so that might come close!

4) Where do you see yourself in the future?
In the future I see Fox + Stag being a new staple for quality made products that allows me to live on a ranch with my wife and son.

5) What tips/advice would you give to someone who wants to go down the same career path as yourself?
My biggest piece of advice for someone who is starting out on a new venture as a Fashion Designer/Tailor would definitely be to make sure that you absolutely love the fashion industry and every step of the design and production process. If you have passion for your work, then the projects and obstacles that come your way will never be a burden to get completed but more as something to look forward to.

6) Which would you say is your favorite item from your shop at the moment?
My favorite item in my shop currently is the Dr. Jones bag. It is stylish and classy, while at the same time sturdy, durable and versatile. The Dr. Jones bag is more than just a fashion accessory, it has the functionality to do more than just look good. Whether you use it to load up tools for a weekend of camping or a trusty spot for your Macbook Pro during the week, it always comes in handy!
However, my favorite item is subject to change because I will be launching a new Fox + Stag Iphone 6 case along with some new winter bags which I am so excited about! Stay tuned by following us on Twitter and Facebook!

 ----------------------------------------------------

 ----------------------------------------------------

Wishing you all an amazing weekend, if you get some free time check out Fox + Stag on their platforms more details of their items can be found on Twitter which is regularly updated.
Also a massive thank you to Johnathan and his team for allowing myself and my readers to get a closer in-look to the company and items and I wish you all the very best with your business!

Petite Paris - La Redoute Spring Summer 2014 Collection OOTD*

Review Piece For La Redoute
Spring Summer 2014 Collection

There are so many online stores and brochure companies now on the fashion scene, and La Redoute has been one that I've noticed advertise frequently with their French style fashion. I was contacted by a team member in regards to their launch of their spring/summer 2014 collection, to be given the opportunity to review an item was very honorable.
As I browsed their new collection, I was thinking in terms of something that would become great use to me, an item which could be dressed up or down.

All comments and opinions are 100% my own and I've not been paid to say them.

Finally making my decision, I opted for the round neck embellished sweater with 3/4 sleeves. The Jewell trim has been something that caught my eye, as I've seen many sweaters taking on this style which gives it that added sparkle detail!

On receiving the item, to my surprise it wasn't at all creased and all of the jewel pieces were intact. The sweater fabric was soft to the touch, not at all itchy and very light to wear, which I found perfect for the spring/summer weather we've been having here in the UK.

As i'm petite I found the sweater to fit comfortably on my frame and could be styled in many ways, I chose for these pictures some pastel jeans and sandals for a casual look. This item was a good quality piece and I'm sure even up to Autumn I will have plenty of wear from it!

Top - La Redoute
Jeans - Vero Moda
Sandals - Primark
Necklace - Vintage Vixen

The only concerns which I found with this sweater, was the fact that if there were to be an incident where the Jewels would fall off or be lost, there were no back up ones sent with the item to repair it. Also there was nothing stated on the way to wash this item! With this being said it's quite a delicate piece and needs to be looked after when washing the garment.

Feel free to check out the collection online and do let me know which is your favourite pieces in the comments bellow!

Thank you for reading lovelies!

I've been a big fan of Asos for a very long time; They have everything you need from vintage pieces to current trends in all different sizes!

Of course even though I've been blogging for quite some time, I didn't think I'd stand a chance because #accessallasos receive so many applications each month from many talented fashionistas!
So I went to the application form, filled it out and crossed my fingers. It must have been a week that passed and I checked my emails like I do daily, and came across a follow from the access all ASOS team on Twitter; at first I thought it was a coincidence but I then came to find that I was accepted from that month! I can honestly say I was speechless! But above all, proud.

So what is an #accessallasos insider you may ask? well, as quoted from their website - an exciting new destination for our most loyal fans where we’ll give you unprecedented access to all things ASOS. *NEW* Feature Friday - Blogger JellyBeanAdventures 26th of July

New Feature Friday!
Featuring JellyBeanAdventures.com

Happy Friday everyone! Today's feature Friday is highlighting a lovely blogger, she is Stephanie and owns Jellybeanadventures.com

Stephanie really reflects herself so well in blogging, she is down to earth and holds in her readers when she writes. I remember first looking over at her blog and how amazing her jelly bean animated header was! She blogs about a selection of things, lifestyle posts, fashion and wonderful beauty hauls! It's been a pleasure to hear a bit more about Stephanie and her blog by interviewing her; Enjoy!

-------------------------------------------------------
Interview with Stephanie Pickering l Owner of JellyBeanAdventures

1) What has been your key inspiration to beginning your blog?

My real inspiration was from seeing my other friends from around the internet popping up with theirs and they were cleverly designed and it was somewhere to document what you'd been up to, things you'd bought that were good/things to avoid and people would actually listen(read)!.

2) What do you enjoy the most about blogging?

I enjoy being honest about things. If I don't like something, I will say why. I'll even tweet about the recent blog post and probably tag the companies in of products that I've used. That way I'd like to hope that my voice would be heard. I also like that if I'm thinking of buying something new then I have a search about on various blogs and get the general jist of how it works/if it's good and the price range.

3) To date, what has been your 'proudest' blog moment?
I think my proudest moment was when I first posted about my weight loss, which included some less than flattering photographs. I needed to get it out there, in order for me to acknowledge that's how I look and to move on and get myself better and fitter. It did take me a while to press that post button.
 4) Where do you see yourself and blog develop in the future?
In the future I'm looking to move house, and at that point I will be buying a proper camera with a tripod and doing outfit posts as I love buying clothes, moreso than make-up. At the moment I haven't got any space, nor camera, nor privacy to pose as much as I like so it's all a waiting game.
5) What tips/advice would you give to someone who wants to go down the blogging path like yourself?
I would say find yourself a niche, don't blog about the obvious stuff. You can find 10 to the dozen reviews on a number of blogs all for the same foundation/lipstick/eyeshadow. You get sick of reading all the repetition, well I know I do! Also, if you're going to use a product and then review it after, why not do a before and after style post, I love reading them. For example you might buy some shampoo that claims to de-frizz. It's all well and good saying 'Yea it works and it's great'. I want to SEE how well it works.
6) Which would you say is your favourite type of blog post to do?
I'd say I do love doing the adventuring updates, although I don't do those too often and I haven't got a lot of free time away from work. I really love pining over clothes so blogging about loads of pretty clothes makes me feel better, also keeps the links to the clothes fresh in my mind as I always source my finds.
7) 3 Must have beauty items you couldn't be without!
At the moment it's my Alberto Balsam green apple/mandarin shampoo and conditioner. I love fruity smelling hair care, and it's the type of product that you can still smell at the end of the day. It's lush!
I really swear by the Clearasil face wipe pads, I don't have spots per say but recently with the hot weather my face has been oilier than usual. These wipes are alcoholly so make my skin feel lovely after using.
And finally, I alway carry a Soap and glory spritzer in my bag. I love the smell and it's easy enough to just splash on whenever I feel like it. It's all girly and that's quite unlike me. I love it.
-------------------------------------------------------
Thank you so much to Stephanie for opening up about herself and her blogging adventure! I wish her all the luck with her blog and would love for you to all check it out along with her networking sites:-
